About Me

She / Her

Hi, I’m Kate Christman, LCSW, PMH-C and am so glad you’re here.

I’m a licensed clinical social worker who’s passionate about supporting individuals and couples through the transitions of pregnancy, birth, and parenthood. I believe in providing a safe space where my clients feel challenged to change and grow and always honor them for who they authentically are.

Since receiving my Master of Social Work, I’ve worked with adults and children in a wide variety of settings, including mental health organizations and hospitals. It was through my work helping individuals and couples feel emotionally supported during pregnancy and the first years after birth, that I truly found my niche.

My approach is strengths-based, affirming, and collaborative. Those who have worked with me describe me as warm, empathetic, and grounded.

I’m passionate about collaborating with medical providers and community organizations to ensure that families receive inclusive, affirming, and equitable care during pregnancy and the postpartum period. To that end, I seek to partner with providers to serve as a resource on perinatal mental health and parenting children with special medical needs.

My specialties include:

  • pregnancy and postpartum adjustment

  • perinatal mental health

  • in utero diagnosis

  • grief and loss

  • newborn hospitalization

  • parenting a medically complex infant or child

History & Experience

I started my private practice to more fully support families as they navigate through their unique pregnancy and parenthood journeys. Using evidence-based practices, I tailor my approach to meet the needs and goals of each client I work with. I hold a Certificate in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C) from Postpartum Support International which means I’ve completed specialized training to diagnosis and treat mood and anxiety disorders in pregnancy and the postpartum period.  I continually seek learning opportunities to stay engaged in current research and best clinical practices.

One of my areas of interest and expertise is working with parents of children with special medical needs, including during pregnancy. Before entering private practice, I provided counseling to families coping with the diagnosis of heart and other congenital anomalies in a fetal cardiology program. Prior to that, my years of work in children’s hospitals and specialty medical clinics helped me develop a firsthand understanding of the needs and experiences unique to parents. I love my work and am so grateful for the opportunity to walk alongside families as they seek to find balance in the joys and challenges of parenting.
