What to Expect & Frequently Asked Questions

How are you seeing clients right now?

I offer both in-person and teletherapy services. My office is located in Decatur, GA. Teletherapy sessions are provided through a HIPAA compliant secure online portal called Simple Practice. Prior to our first appointment, I’ll provide you with written instructions on how to access and use the portal. Teletherapy services are available to clients who live anywhere in Georgia. Due to licensing requirements, clients must be physically located in Georgia when we meet.

In preparation for a teletherapy appointment, I ask that you find a private and comfortable space. You will also need a good internet connection.

Do you take insurance and what are you rates?

I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, United Healthcare, Amerigroup, Caresource, and Peachstate. I’m also a provider with Lyra EAP.

For those who are out of network or prefer not to use insurance, my self pay rate is $150 per 55-minute session. I’m happy to provide you with a receipt called a Superbill that your health insurance may allow for reimbursement. If this is something you’d like to do, I recommend that you contact your insurance plan for details about reimbursement prior to our first appointment.

Payment is required at the time of our appointment and I will bill you through the Simple Practice portal.

How Do I Get Started?

Feel free to reach out via phone, email, or my contact page.

What is the first appointment like?

Scheduling a first appointment is an important step in taking care of yourself! After you schedule the appointment, I’ll send you paperwork to complete via a secure client portal. Please complete this paperwork before we meet. It provides me with helpful background information and will give us more time to talk during our session. This appointment is an opportunity for you to share more about what you’re experiencing, why you’re seeking help, and some of your goals for therapy. I’ll ask questions about your life including your history, your family, and your support network. At the end of the session, we’ll decide on a plan for moving forward.

How often will I see you and for how long?

It really depends. In the beginning, it’s usually most helpful to have weekly or bi-weekly appointments. During the first few sessions we’ll work together to establish goals and a realistic plan to help you start feeling better. My approach is collaborative, and I want your time with me to feel meaningful and helpful to you. What we work on will be centered around your needs and what feels manageable to you at this time.

Can I bring my baby to my appointment?

Yes! Your baby is welcome, and you may hold them, care for them, and feed them during our session. However, I also want you to feel able to comfortably share your feelings and express yourself during our time together. Having your baby with you may or may not support that and I’m happy to talk more about this with you during our phone consult or initial appointment.

Is what we discuss confidential?

Yes. I am legally and ethically bound to keep what you share during our work together confidential with a few exceptions including:

  • You sign a release of information form for me to share specific information with someone

  • You tell me that you want to harm yourself or someone else

  • You tell me that you or someone else is harming a child or dependent adult

  • You choose to use your insurance for services in which case I will need to provide a diagnosis and sometimes a treatment summary

What happens if I can’t make our scheduled appointment?

I require 24 hours notice for canceled appointments and kindly request that you contact me as soon as you know that you won’t be able to attend your appointment as scheduled. Appointments canceled less than 24 hours in advance and missed appointments are subject to the full session fee. Appointments canceled more than 24 hours in advance will be rescheduled for a more convenient time.
